Vermont Freedom to Marry and the LGBTQ & allies community congratulate Susan Murray, longtime marriage equality champion and member of the VFM family, on being named Vermont Lawyer of the Year for family law -- for the second time -- by the peer review publication Best Lawyers
Susan was co-counsel, along with Beth Robinson (now a Vermont Supreme Court Justice) and Mary Bonauto (Civil Rights Project Director at Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders -- GLAD), in Vermont's 1999 landmark case, Baker v. State of Vermont. That case resulted in the Vermont legislature's passing a civil union law, marking the first U.S. legal recognition of same-sex couples and a critical step toward marriage equality. Susan is a law partner at Langrock Sperry & Wool, LLP.
