Tuesday, April 8th:
Montpelier – Visibility Day – Join us any time between 8am-2:30pm for Visibility Day. GLBTQ community organizations and their supporters will gather at the state house to be visible and to connect with our legislators about issues important to us. You can link to the schedule and mark your calendar for the meeting with Governor Douglas at 11am. Get the schedule.


May 2008

Sunday, May 25th:
Burlington - Vermont City Marathon & Marathon Relay – Volunteer 2 hours at the marathon to collect signatures from marathon goers in support of marriage rights for same-sex couples. As folks hang out, waiting for the runners to pass, VFM volunteers will ask folks to sign-on in support of equal marriage rights. It’s easy, fun and a great opportunity to demonstrate support in Burlington’s community.

To volunteer 2 hours, email Robyn at field_director@vtfreetomarry.org. We’ll meet at the Waterfront at 9am. Specific location TBA.

Thursday May 8th:
Rutland – Rutland South Rotary, 7:30am – Beth Robinson will speak to Rotarians to provide education on why marriage equality is important to same-sex couples and their families. Her presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Thursday May 22nd:

Brattleboro - Strolling of the Heifers Parade, 9:00 am - Volunteer 2 hours at one of Brattleboro’s much anticipated Strolling of the Heifers. As folks hang out, waiting for the cows to amble by, VFM volunteers will ask folks to sign-on in support of equal marriage rights. It’s easy, fun and a great opportunity to demonstrate support in Brattleboro’s community.

Wednesday March 19th:
Burlington - University of Vermont: Class Discussion - Robyn Maguire provided a presentation about the overall movement for the freedom to marry, including the difference between civil unions and civil marriage and next steps in Vermont.

Middlebury - Woman Safe Award Ceremony – Beth Diamond, a former VFM board member and long-time supporter, was recognized for her service as a volunteer of Women Safe. VFM’s field director, Robyn Maguire, spoke about Beth’s work as an advocate for equal civil rights for same-sex couples.

Come Out on Church St. (Tuesday October 11th)
VFMTF will have a table on Church St. for coming out day from 11am-1pm. We will offer supporters an opportunity to sign our resolution, find out more information about how to support marriage equality and distribute helpful informational materials.

Coming out as a Scholar (Wednesday October 12th)

Colchester (Thursday October 13th)

Jason West of New Paltz, NY married 25 gay and lesbian couples in the small New York village of New Paltz. He is the second mayor in the nation – after Gavin Newsom of San Francisco – to marry same-sex couples. He was eventually charged with 19 misdemeanor counts of “solemnizing marriage without a license.” He will discuss his role in marriage equality and VFMTF will have a table at the event.

We're in booth lot 145 in the Robert E. Miller Expo Center Building. Our booth is in the isle under the hanging green flags, against the wall, about half-way down the isle. Look for the big yellow plane soaring above the booth!

The Vermont State Fair (Sept. 2nd – 11th) VFMTF will take part in one of Vermont’s oldest traditions at the Vermont State Fair in Rutland, VT. The State Fair is celebrating 160 yrs. this fair season and VFMTF will be there, identifying supporters of marriage equality and providing education. Addison County Field Days: VFMTF’s booth was a success at Addison County Fair & Field Days, Vermont's largest agricultural fair that celebrated its 57th anniversary this year. We enlisted more supporters and educated community members about the value of full marriage equality for all Vermonters. It was great to be a part of this Addison tradition.

March for Freedom to Marry: The Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force would love to have any interested volunteers marching with us in the PRIDE parade on July 9. Our biggest contribution to PRIDE will be our presence, so please come to show your support and bring your friends! We will meet in the City Market parking lot in downtown Burlington at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 9. We've ordered new tee-shirts for the event, so please bring $15 to purchase a shirt if possible.
